Plasma Lift - Fujitsu Plasma Screen - Kef Dropdown Speakers - MJ Acoustics Reference 100 - Denon 1906

CASE STUDYBEDROOM PLASMA LIFT

Overview

Finite Solutions incorporated a 42" plasma on an automated lift with full 5.1 surround sound in this master bedroom.

The brief

The client demanded a completely discreet cinema system in the bedroom that would only be visible when in use. We were required to integrate this into a Rako lighting system and the Opus multiroom system that we had already installed.

Budget

Approximately £10,000 to £15,000.

Plasma Screen Lift and Blinds

The combination of the Future Automation plasma lift, and Silent Gliss blinds allow the 42" Fujitsu plasma screen to be hidden in a custom built cabinet behind the wall.

With a simple press on the remote, a small opening appears in the wooden window shelf and the plasma screen emerges from below.

The automatic blinds then ensure the best possible picture by removing any bright contrasting light and again are controlled with a single button press on the multi remote.

Source equipment and Amplification

A dedicated Sky box provides independent Sky reception from the rest of the house, but the Sky+ box can also be accessed via the Opus system to allow for recording and playback facilities.

The Denon 1920
DVD/ CD player provides 1080i upscaling to the Fujitsu plasma and allows DVDs to be enjoyed at the best possible quality level.

A Denon 1906 5.1 cinema amplifier then provides the amplification and processing to output to the speakers and the subwoofer.

The audio components of the system can then be enjoyed for good quality two channel stereo or a full, enveloping movie experience.

Loudspeakers

Following the brief for a discreet system, the two Kef dropdown speakers were a natural choice. They sit flush with the sloping walls when not in use, but then upon turning on the system they automatically descend to the optimum listening position.

The rear speaker and centre speakers are fixed as the natural gradient of the wall already provides a very good listening angle.

The audio element of the system is then completed by the addition of an MJ Acoustics Reference 100 subwoofer that sits hidden away in the custom built cabinet.

Control and Lighting

In order to provide seamless control of all the AV and automation equipment it was essential to specify a good quality multi remote control.

A Marantz RC5400 was custom programmed by Finite Solutions to allow easy operation of all the equipment. Macros were added so that with a single button press the plasma screen appears, the blinds come down, and the front speakers descend to their optimum listening position.

The remote was also programmed to operate the Rako lighting system with all the different scenes available as different buttons.
