WHAT ARE HOME AUTOMATION SYSTEMS?

A smart home automation system is where technology meets interior design to create your dream home. It allows for the automation of smart home devices in the home that were previously controlled in isolation, such as light switches or heating. Smart home automation brings together security, heating, lighting, entertainment and more, in one central system allowing them to work together. Not only does this save time, but it is more convenient and more efficient.

Currently many city smart homes consist of several isolated smart home gadgets with an app to work a single device. However, professional and luxury smart home solutions reach beyond, turning on a single light switch with your voice assistant. It allows you to operate everything together with a single remote, screen or app and can even be programmed to operate independently. Internet connected devices are the future and with a home automation system, you can be at the forefront. From design and installation to updates and integration of the latest technology, Finite Solutions will ensure your smart home installation runs smoothly.

WHERE TO BEGIN WITH HOME AUTOMATION?

With so many home appliances capable of smart home automation, it might be daunting to know where to start. Our team can help you understand the options available and design a system tailored to your needs. A thorough understanding of how you use your space and what electronic devices and other appliances you need to include will help us provide you with the perfect home automation solution for your lifestyle.

Smart Home Automation Aspects

  • HOME ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS

  • A big advantage of having a smart home operating system is being able to combine all of your entertainment devices into one system. This means you don’t need several different remote controls for different devices, as you can operate everything from one central point. You can also create whole-house audio systems, so you can listen to music in every room, or even outdoors.

Acoustically transparent screens and ceiling speakers ensure that the period features or minimalist style of your chosen interior design are not compromised. We can advice you on the best audio visual installation to suit your personal requirements.

  • INTEGRATING YOUR TV INTO YOUR SMART HOME

  • If you have a TV as part of your entertainment system, you can also integrate this with other devices in the home. For example, if you’re watching a film on your TV and someone rings the doorbell, your security system can utilise the doorbell camera. The image will automatically appear on the screen so you can see who is at the door. All your smart home security, cameras, lights, etc. can be controlled from your device, giving you complete control of your home from one central point.

A home entertainment system allows you to enjoy your favourite music or your favourite film in every corner of the home with multi-roo audio and visual equipment. Through automation and expert design, screens and speakers can be concealed within the walls or ceiling and appear if needed, giving your living space a sleeker, more modern appearance.

  • HOME CINEMA INSTALLATION

  • Another popular feature of smart homes is an own home cinema room. This can be installed in any room and used to watch TV, films or sport on a big screen with surround sound. You can also use a home cinema room for gaming or listen to music. The options are endless, and a home cinema room can be tailored to your specific requirements with bespoke seating, lighting and decoration making it a very personal space in your home.

  • LIGHTING CONTROL

  • Smart homes allow for greater control over lighting, meaning that you can programme specific lighting for different requirements or times of the day. Lighting can even be programmed to activate or deactivate depending on whether anyone is at home, in a specific room or within a certain radius.

    Creating Lighting Scenes

Smart lighting scenes can be designed to set mood lighting for entertaining or relaxing, and can even be used to make your home look occupied when you’re away on holiday. Smart lighting is also more energy efficient than traditional lighting, as it only uses the power that is needed.

With this control, it means you can have the lights switched on when you’re half a mile away from home, ready for you to arrive. If you’re away from your home for an extended period of time, you can still have control over your lights (as well as all other aspects of the smart home).

Lighting sequences aren’t all about artificial lighting either. If you are fortunate enough to get a lot of natural light in your home, you can use smart home automation technology to automatically close blinds to adjust how much you let in at different times of the day, opening your curtains at sunrise and closing them at the end of the day.

  • HEATING, COOLING & ENERGY

  • Home automation systems allow you greater cooling and heating control, saving you energy in the process. If programmed, the heating or cooling system in your home can switch off the moment you leave, meaning you use only the energy you need.

  • Smart Heating Control

  • A smart thermostat can also be set to turn on the heating or cooling before you arrive home, so it’s comfortable for you as soon as you step through the front door or switch off the heating in your home office at the end of the working day. Remotely controlled through the wifi. On average, smart homes can save up to 30% on their energy costs when used correctly.

  • HOW SMART TECHNOLOGY ENHANCES SECURITY SYSTEMS

  • You can instantly receive notifications on your mobile when a device is triggered, such as CCTV or movement sensors. You’re able to connect CCTV cameras to your audiovisual system the moment you receive that notification and view what is happening around or within the home. With the right equipment, you can even engage in conversation with people at the door or on the grounds of your property.

Smart home security can also be used to monitor other aspects of the home, such as flood sensors or carbon monoxide detectors. Remote monitoring means that you can have complete peace of mind while away from the property.

  • INTEGRATING YOUR SMART DEVICES

  • A smart home can integrate all of your smart devices into one system giving you complete control. This might include your TV, sound system, lights, security cameras, video doorbells thermostat and more. The advantage of this is that you can control systems from one central location, whether that’s a remote control, your smartphone or a voice-activated assistant such as Amazon Alexa or Google Home.

SMART HOME PROJECT IN CHESHIRE

On a previous smart home project in Cheshire, our team were asked to undertake (alongside award-winning Design with Uber) a full internal and external lighting system. The brief was to create lighting which was easily switched from functional to mood, and could compliment the architectural features of this amazing new build home.

Finite utilised the Creston smart home systems and Lutron lighting controls, two of the most popular brands when it comes to smart home installation. Their products are reliable and offer a wide range of features to suit any need.

Lutron offers a line of wireless lighting control products that can be easily installed and configured to meet your specific needs. 160 circuits of Lutron Homeworks QS lighting and 43 Lutron See Touch metal engraved switches were used to provide control of the lighting across the main building and gardens.

Lutron’s intuitive homeowner app means any minor tweaks or adjustments, after the system was handed over, can be made instantly by the owner and mood lighting for each room can be adjusted and saved to suit the client’s preferences.

The Lutron system is also linked to the wider Crestron smart home system. This provides lighting control over each room or global control to turn off the whole house. Wall touch panels or the smart app allow the client the ability to set up the property for entertaining The Crestron system also provides another layer of intelligence, using timers for automated lighting around the house and for security enhancement by integration with our external security detection system, which triggers both internal and external lighting, to ward of off any potential intruders whilst the clients are away from home.
