SMART HOME AUTOMATION YORK

WHAT IS SMART HOME AUTOMATION?
Smart home automation gives you greater control over devices and technology within your home, normally from anywhere in the world. Whilst this is applicable to isolated devices, a truly automated smart home involves a central network to which every smart device is connected.
With everything in the home fully integrated, the homeowner is able to control lights, blinds, security, heating, cooling, energy and entertainment, either through remotes or smartphones and tablets. Some devices are even triggered by input from other devices and work together in unison, requiring no effort from the user. For example, lights can be programmed to activate when your smartphone is within a mile of your home, without any manual input.
The aim of smart home automation is to simplify home life and all the mundane tasks that come with it, allowing you to spend more time on what really matters. Many homes in York have already installed standalone smart home gadgets to improve their life but a fully automated, professionally installed smart home system is still an exclusive luxury for you to enjoy.
ASPECTS OF HOME AUTOMATION
LIGHTING
Smart home lighting consists of two parts – lights and blinds. With an average of just 4.2 hours of sunshine each day in York, these two elements can be automated to work together. A professional system will automatically maximise the natural light when it’s available and activate artificial lighting when light levels drop, such as at night time.
Smart home lighting also allows for custom lighting sequences for different situations. For instance, for your morning routine, you could program the lights to be bright, in order to wake you up better. In the evening, with the press of a button, the lights can be dimmed and change colour ready to watch a film.
Don’t forget that lights can also be used to complement the interior design of your York home.
SECURITY
Despite a lower than average crime rate in York, it is still important to protect your home from threats to your safety and have peace of mind. A smart home automation system is the best way to integrate security into your home.
With this technology, you can instantly be notified via your smartphone the moment something unusual is detected by your CCTV or motion sensors. If you’ve connected your TV screens to the same network, the CCTV or video doorbell can display images on any screen you choose. You’re even able to talk back to visitors on your premises before you decide to open the door.
Lights can also be used for your security, to either give the impression that someone is occupying the house when you’re away or to illuminate the exits in the event of a fire.
HEATING AND ENERGY
Having a smart home automation system is a great way to save money on your heating and energy bills. With greater control over what is being used and when, you only use what you need. Automation means your heating can be programmed to switch on when you’re on your way home or switch off when a room has been vacant for a short period of time.
On average, smart homes can save you up to 30% on energy costs when used correctly.
ENTERTAINMENT
As with other aspects of your home, a smart home automation system really enhances the capabilities of your home’s entertainment. With a connection to every device in the house, you can benefit from multiroom audio which allows you to broadcast your favourite music throughout the home. Alternatively, you could set a separate mood for each room.
Like audio, you can have the same control over your video. This ensures that you’ll never miss a part of the 4K HD action on screen. You’ll also have the ability to control what other screens are displaying, which is great if you’ve got a young family.
