CINEMA SEATING FOR HOME CINEMAS
CINEMA ROOM – A FRONT ROW EXPERIENCE IN YOUR OWN HOME
If you are setting up your own home cinema room you will no doubt have done some research on sound systems, screens, picture quality etc. but don’t underestimate the importance of your cinema seat for maximum comfort and movie-watching experience. Here we check out the many seating options for your best front row experience.
HOME THEATRE SEATING – WHERE TO START
AVAILABLE SPACE
Start by looking at the size of the space that you are looking to transform into your home theatre and how many people you are looking to accommodate. Your home cinema seating needs to allow everyone in the room to have an unobstructed view of the screen while being comfortable enough to sit through a two-hour movie. Plan out how you will site your furniture before making any decisions.
HOW MUCH SPACE PER PERSON?
The recommended viewing distance from the screen is 2.5-3 times the diagonal size of the screen. So, for example, if you have a 55” TV/monitor, the ideal viewing distance would be around 6-7.5 feet (183-229cms). This gives you a rough idea of what room you need to allow per person and what home cinema furniture you can get fit in. This will help you to decide on the number of home cinema seats required, as well as how close together they can be placed.
That might narrow down the number of choices available to you as some of the more luxury seating take up quite a lot of space. An average reclining seat is 80cm x 60cm (100cm when reclined) and you need to leave access space around the seating so people can comfortably get in and out.
OPTIONS FOR HOME CINEMA ROOM SEATING
Choosing a style for your home cinema furniture therefore needs to be a balance between space and the number of people you want to accommodate. Prices and quality vary wildly too, with a new range or feature often appearing on the market. Be sure to look at various ranges before deciding.
INDIVIDUAL RECLINER SEATS
As the name suggests, these are designed for one person with full back and leg support, often with the added bonus of being able to recline at various angles. Some models even have built-in massage and heat functions.
DOUBLE CINEMA SEATS
A double cinema seat, or loveseat, is a great option if you don’t have a lot of space as they take up less room than two individual home cinema chairs. They are also great for cuddling up with family and loved ones whilst watching your favourite movies.
CINEMA SOFAS
Home cinema sofas are also a good choice if you want to seat more than two people. They come in a variety of sizes as they come in a variety of sizes.
HOME CINEMA SEATING VS OFFICE CHAIRS?
Customers often ask if they can just use office chairs in their home cinema room as they are often cheaper than purpose-built home cinema seating. While you could technically do this, we wouldn’t recommend it as office chairs are not designed for comfort during long periods of sitting and don’t offer the same level of support.
Once you have decided on the style of chair, it’s time to think about fabric choices. The most important thing to consider is how easy the fabric will be to clean as let’s face it, popcorn and drink spills are inevitable when watching movies!
FABRICS
There are an endless number of options for fabric and colour choices on cinema seats to create the style and comfort for your viewing experience. You want something that will give the right level of comfort and style for your home cinema chairs but is hard-wearing and easy to clean.
Velvet is a popular choice for cinema room seating as it has a luxurious look and feel, but can be difficult to clean, so maybe not be the best choice if you have young children in the family.
Most fabrics though can be given a treatment to help repel stains so if you have a particular fabric you really want to use speak to your supplier about its suitability.
FAUX LEATHER
Faux leather is a great alternative to the real thing as it looks and feels very similar but is much more affordable. It is also easier to care for as it doesn’t require the same level of maintenance as leather.
LEATHER
If you want to create the ultimate home cinema then leather might be the way to go. It looks and feels luxurious, is easy to clean and is comfortable even when sitting for long periods of time. Leather also has the advantage that it will age better than other materials.
LUXURY CINEMA ROOM SEATS
Have you ever wished you could take the cinema experience to the next level? Well, now you can with luxury extras like daybeds, heated seats, and massagers in your cinema room seats. You can also control the whole experience with smart home controls! With these features, you can make sure you’re always comfortable and enjoying the movie just the way you want to.
