BESPOKE HOME CINEMAS: ANY SIZE, ANY SHAPE

When we talk about bespoke home cinemas, we mean cinema rooms that are tailored to you and your vision. When it’s designed and developed especially for you, it feels more personal and provides more enjoyment than a commercial cinema.
As an expert installer of home cinemas for over 15 years, we’ve worked on a wide range of home projects that include spaces that might be considered a challenge. At Finite Solutions, we welcome the challenge to convert rooms large or small, wide or narrow.
WHAT IS A BESPOKE CINEMA SOLUTION?
So when you opt for a bespoke home cinema solution, what are you actually going to get?
CINEMA EQUIPMENT
Firstly, a bespoke approach will provide you with the right equipment for your solution. When it comes to the audio, for example, we will take into consideration the size and shape of the room and how this will affect the acoustics. We’ll work to get these just right. Where possible, we’ll likely place the speakers within the walls around the room to provide an immersive surround sound for the best experience.
For the screen, we want to ensure that this fits the space as best as possible and we may work on a tiered seating solution so that the screen can be visible for everyone.
We’ll also work on a solution that fits within your budget. Every project is different and so is every budget.
HOME CINEMA DESIGN
The cinema room is going to be one of your home’s most treasured assets, so it’ll need to have an aesthetic you’re happy with. Whether you enjoy your cinema room alone or with friends and family, the room isn’t a cinema room unless it feels like one too.
Design involves the lighting and atmosphere to the style and material of the seating. Everything that forms part of the design is considered in a bespoke build and each aspect can be changed depending on what you want.
USING THE SPACE
When choosing the equipment and interior design especially for your project, we take into consideration the space in which we are working. Not all homes have the same sized and shaped rooms to convert into a home cinema, but this is not a problem.
The shape of any room can be altered. In some of our projects, we’ve excavated parts of the property and removed now-redundant elements such as fireplaces. We can also close off areas that make it difficult to get that cinema feel and they’ll actually double-up as storage space for all of the AV equipment. When out of sight, you can enjoy the films without being aware of all the equipment behind the scenes.
OUR PROCESS – WHAT TO EXPECT
When you make the decision to convert a room into a home cinema, you can expect a process from us.
Firstly, we’ll look at the room you wish to convert and with your brief and budget in mind, we will work on ideas for the new cinema room.
Before we begin any work within the property, we’ll develop 3D renders of the space to show any proposed layout changes. If you have an awkwardly shaped room you’ll be able to see how we will adapt it. You’ll also see the proposed interior design to ensure it matches your expectations, especially if you’ve requested a particular theme.
Before work begins, you’ll also have the option to see a demonstration of the high-end cinema equipment. You’ll get the chance to weigh up your options and experiment, ensuring you make the right decision for your home.
After the 3D model is signed off, the team will produce construction drawings and we’ll ask you to make a final fabric selection before moving on to the build phase.
Once you’ve made a final decision, that’s when we get to work. At this point, the work we undertake depends on the room itself.
We’ll make changes to the room to ensure the acoustics are sufficient which may involve acoustic treatment and soundproofing. The AV equipment will be housed safely but out of plain sight. If part of the brief, we will work on concealing the speakers within the walls and/or ceiling, meaning you just have to focus on the screen. The screen and projector can be installed as a permanent feature of the room or designed to drop from the ceiling. If needed, we’ll work on tiered seating to maximise the space yet ensure everyone has the best cinematic experience.
EXAMPLES
We have worked on a number of projects that involved small or difficult spaces. Here are a couple of examples:
ATTIC CINEMA
Finite Solutions worked on an Attic Cinema for a client in London. The room was very long, but it was quite narrow with a low ceiling. With some clever work, we were able to provide a turnkey solution for them.
The AV rack was actually housed outside the cinema room under a counter in a lobby area. Next to the fridge, the counters made a great space for pouring drinks, ready for the film. With this equipment out of the way, it gave much more room within the cinema and we were able to provide seating for 6 people.
Due to the thin shape of the room, it wasn’t possible to get all of the seating in one row. It made sense for us to create staging at either side of the door, which allowed for tiered seating. This ensured people sitting at the back could still see the screen fully.
MINI CINEMA
A client wanted to convert a tiny basement room just 4m long by 3m wide and only 1.6m high. Almost unusable for anything, they decided to turn it into a home cinema. After showing 3D renders, we helped the client select equipment that would deliver an experience they wanted for the greatly reduced size space. In this example, we installed slim and shallow speakers which we were able to conceal within a limited frontwall build out.
The cinema room would be used by children as well as adults and high volume sounds wouldn’t be appropriate. Because of this requirement, we focused on maximising the sound quality within the room by acoustically treating the walls and ceiling.
UP FOR THE CHALLENGE
Sometimes rooms can be oddly shaped, but with over 15 years in the business, we’re used to working on rooms no matter what they look like. If you’ve got a room in the house that would make a great cinema room but you’re unsure about it because of the size or shape, speak to us to discuss the possibilities.
