The Brief

Having worked with our clients on a cinema in a previous property our clients were looking for a turn key solution for the delivery of a bespoke cinema room in the attic area of their new home.

The large room was to be split  in to a lobby area and a cinema room with the lobby housing drinks fridges, the AV equipment rack and general use storage with the cinema to provide seating for 6 people with a full fabric wrapped interior and high performance audio visual system.

Design and Build

3D renders of the room were produced to illustrate the proposed layout and lighting in the room with the primary layout challenge being the requirement for 6 seats in very long but relatively thin and low ceilinged room.

The solution to the seating issue was to create staging either side of the door which allowed a standard level entry which then stepped up to the higher seating tier for two seats either side of the door with a further step down to the main room level then being required to allow for love seats either side of the room.

Camria Blazer Lite acoustically transparent fabric was used to wrap the whole room using a lick track system which provided the space to conceal all the acoustic treatment materials and speakers and the central ceiling area was suspended to provide lighting detailing and space for the Dolby Atmos overhead speakers

The projector and subwoofers were built in to the rear walls of the cinema area so they were concealed from view and to maintain maximum headroom and seating space to allow for the largest screen size possible

The Audio Visual Systems

A Middle Atlantic pull out AV rack installed in the lobby cupboards houses a central Yamaha reference Dolby Atmos processor, Sky Q Silver box,  Apple TV and a Blu-Ray player and also the Control4 processor which ensures the whole system is easily operated via a smart remote and iPad app.

B&W 7 series in wall speakers and B&W DB1 subwoofers provide a Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 configuration surround sound system with a Sony 760 laser projector delivering crisp, bright 4k images on to the 9 foot wide 16:9 aspect Projecta screen.

A Lutron lighting control system provides simple lighting mood selection for the cinema and lobby area controlled via smart wall switches and the Control 4 smart system.
