The Brief

Our clients were looking for a comprehensive smart home system for their families new build home in Yorkshire. Entertainment system flexibility with 4k TV distribution of 5x Sky boxes, Apple TV, CCTV to 13 x TV’s around the house and a dedicated cinema room. The 18 x zones of streaming audio were high on the priority list as was a comprehensive smart lighting and security solution.

The Solution

Further to demonstrations of Control4, Lutron and Crestron control systems and various different levels of cinema performance at our Show House in Leeds, the clients selected a Crestron control and lighting system as this would allow us to deliver the most comprehensive security control and a simplistic system for them to use.

To ensure ease of use, our team deployed a custom graphical interface on the Crestron control system allowing numerous user modes for each member of the family and house staff. By doing this, it would only allow each person to access certain features of the smart control system thus preventing children from operating heating, lighting and security options whilst giving quick easy access to the entertainment systems.

The main system comprised of a Crestron control system with smart remotes, tablet and phone interface and in wall touch panels around the house that would control the following house functions:

Full house Crestron lighting control
TV’s and music around the house via Crestron NVX and NAX systems
2N Gate Entry
Dahua CCTV
Heating and hot water
Texecom Burglar alarm
External perimeter security early warning system
Garage Doors
Smart Glass walls to bathrooms
Silent Gliss electric blinds and curtains

In addition to the above the system also included a full high quality wired and wireless network and a high performance cinema room with all design and room fit out by the Finite Solutions team.

The End Result

After living with the system for a couple of months our clients are delighted with the end result. The whole family find the system easy to use and the user modes have been a great success. Particular highlights for the clients were the one button whole house set up modes for lighting and music when entertaining, the patio TV and the increased feeling of security with the high end security systems deployed plus the cinema room which looks and feels fantastic and has been used far more than the clients expected.
