The Brief

Our clients brief was to design and build a reference quality home cinema room to be constructed in an unused double garage in their new home.

We were given open reign on the interior design and layout of the room to achieve optimum performance with the only prerequisites being no tired seating, the best sound possible and the largest image that could be comfortable viewed.

The Solution

Further to 3D modelling the room in both the CEDIA cinema designer and sketch up we were able to propose the ideal arrangement for audio/ video performance and to provide a rendered visual showing the client how the room would look with lighting effects and finishes that would be provided.

Ultimately the ideal configuration for the rooms shape, size and viewing position was defined as a Dolby Atmos 5.4.2 system and a 12 foot wide screen with 5m viewing distance to the seating positions

The Technology

The technology selected for the project was all of reference quality and was demonstrate at several manufacturers facilities:

  • 3x B&W CT8.4
  • 4x B&W CT8.5
  • 4x B&W CTSW15 subwoofers
  • 2x B&W SA1000 amplifiers
  • Datasat processor and amplification
  • JVX X9 8k projector
  • Screen research 12 foot wide 16:9 acoustically transparent screen
  • Kaleidescape 4k Movie server and Disc Vault
  • Control4 control system
  • Lutron Lighting control

The End Result

After approximately 3 months of hard work by the build team, Finite Solutions engineers and upholsters the finished room was calibrated to high standards.

The resultant sound quality is outstanding and the client was blown away during a varied run through of demonstrations from movies, to football and music concerts, all of which were delivered in Dolby Atmos quality.

The rooms performance specification along with the fun interior and lighting saw this project come runner up in the CEDIA EMEA region “best Cinema over £100,000” category
