The Brief

Having had a dedicated cinema room from Finite Solutions in a previous property our clients were looking for a bespoke cinema in their new house with upgraded performance, a larger screen and a full fabric wrapped interior design.

The primary challenge we faced was that the Grade 2 listed property had ornate cornice mouldings, parquet flooring and window reveals non of which could be damaged or removed and the full room fit out and AV system had to be built and installed in isolation from the room itself.

The Room Build Solution

A fully floating room within a room with new ceiling, walls and staged flooring was built which is completed isolated from the original room which would allow the entire structure to be removed to the return the room to its original design if so desired at a later date.

As sound proofing was not required and budget was tight the decision was made not to plasterboard and sound proof the room and the studwork frame was instead filled with a combination of acoustic compressed rock wool which could be loose fitted for general absorption and Cinematec diffusers to cover approximately 1/4 of the rooms surface area to ensure the room remained live and exciting sounding.

The Fabric track system was then applied directly on to the room frame work to create the simple slick look the client was looking for.

The Audio Visual System Solution

Further to demonstration of suitable equipment options an Anthem 1120 AVR and B&W 7 series in wall and in ceiling speakers and in wall subwoofers deliver Dolby Atmos 7.2.2 immersive audio which is both immensely powerful and detailed in the room.

A Sony 570 projector delivers stunning 4k imagery from a local Sky Q Silver Box, Apple TV and Xbox via a Projecta acoustically transparent 4m wide 16:9 screen. The 16:9 screen was selected as it best suited the 50/50 mix of movies and TV / games console use in the room

All equipment is housed in a Mid Atlantic pull and swivel rack which is fitted in to wall void at the rear of the room which  again is completely isolated from the original room but keeps all central equipment hidden away.

A Lutron lighting control system and control4 smart home control system then complete the project
