Challenging Attic Space to Custom Home Cinema
Our clients were looking to convert a section of the attic in their 200 year old home in to a home cinema for their family to enjoy movies, gaming and sports.
A challenging space to work in with large wooden beams dividing the room and exposed ceiling beams to work around, required both technical 3D modelling of the best layout for viewing and projection angles and speaker and acoustic treatment placement and interior design and lighting modelling.
The area assigned to the cinema room is approximately 4m wide and 3.5m deep. A 200mm stud framed wall built at the front of the room provides depth for the in wall speakers behind the screen and acoustic treatments but to control the overall budget a simple ply framework was added to the existing walls and skieling to create depth for acoustic materials and wiring and a firm fixing point for the fabric tensioned track which allowed to deliver a slick flush finish with integrated lighting without any major or messy construction work.
Small Space / Big Sound
Further to demonstration of three different levels and brands of equipment at our showroom, the client selected an M&K in wall audio system featuring IW150 in wall front speakers, IC95 in ceiling overhead speakers and D85 on wall surround speakers with an V12+ active subwoofer in a Dolby Atmos 5.1.2 configuration
The screen is a custom back lit 100″ SMS 4k acoustically transparent screen with a JVC NZ9 4k HDR projector, which we built in to the wall between the beams to deliver the necessary throw ratio.
Lighting is controlled by Lutron’s wireless RA2 solution and general audio visual, air conditioning and lighting control is operated via the Control4 smart app.
