Basement Media Room – Cheshire

“Exactly what we were looking for, the ideal room to enjoy big sporting events and movies with friends and family”

Project Location: Cheshire
Project Cost: £35,000
Categories: Bespoke Home Cinema

The Brief

Our clients had decided to dig out the basement in their existing Cheshire home to provide a media and entertainment room they could enjoy with friends and family. Their brief was to design a space that suited socialising as well as watching movies and sports that had to be able to seat at least 8 people and had to contain a bespoke bar and high performance sound system. The clients had main contractors in place but required a complete design service for all aspects of the rooms interior design and installation and commissioning of the AV and automation systems.

The Solution

Initial 3D modelling by our design team allowed our clients to easily visualise the layout of the room that worked best for the bar and cinema area and the general style and finishes in the room.

Whilst the client’s original thoughts leaned more towards a conventional seating arrangement the tiered cinema style seating really allowed the room to feel like a cinema when you were watching movies and made the whole experience of using the room feel much more special.

Our design ensured all audio visual equipment was hidden out of the way for a clean look and the upholstered wall panelling allowed for acoustic treatments to be easily incorporated which ensured that the surround sound in the completed room would deliver to its full potential.

Integrated Technology

To ensure high quality audio performance Triad Gold series in wall speakers were specified in full 7.4.2 Atmos configuration which in conjunction with the Yamaha processor and amplification delivered superbly immersive and powerful surround sound.

A Sony 4k projector, and Screen Research 9 foot wide acoustically transparent screen, Panasonic 4k Blu-Ray player, Amazon Fire 4k player and sky Q 4k ensured the best possible quality of image with all sources delivering full native 4k content to the Sony 4k projector.

Control4 was installed to operate the complete AV system and Lutron lighting via the clients iPhone and iPad which also integrated with the existing control4 smart system in the wider house so the new room was quick and easy to operate just like every other room of the house.

Design and Installation

All room build design was completed by Finite Solutions to allow the client’s existing contractors to build the new stud work walls, run new audio visual and lighting cables and construct the bespoke bar.

Upon completion of the main building and decorating works, Finite Solutions engineers installed all of the audio visual equipment in the room and the main pre built AV rack and acoustic wall panels, the electrical contractor then installed the lighting control system and light fittings.

After all works are completed the required ISF picture calibration and acoustic set up, lighting scene programming and touch screen control programming were completed to ensure optimisation of the rooms performance and one touch simplicity of use.

End Result

The clients were delighted with the finished result and use the room regularly for entertaining and watching films and sports. The picture and sound quality really stand out  and make the audio visual experience of watching movies in particular very immersive and realistic.
